AEGIS Shaft Grounding Ring Bolt-Thru Installation
SGR Installation Instructions

AEGIS Bearing Protection Ring™ with Bolt Thru Installation

* patented technology

Graphic showsing how to select right size SGR for your motor.

Installation Guide:

  1. Shaft must be clean & free of any coatings, paint, or other nonconductive material.
  2. Bearing Protection Ring (SGR) should not operate over keyway. NOTE: Bearing Protection Ring microfibers should not come in contact with the keyway during operation.
  3. Install the Bearing Protection Ring so that the aluminum ring maintains an even clearance around the shaft. Conductive MicroFibers™ must be in contact with conductive metal surface of the shaft.
  4. *CAUTION:
    DO NOT DRILL INTO BEARING
    Metric Mounting Hardware:
    a. Drill (2) holes using a 2.5mm drill
    b. Depth of hole should be 6mm *
    c. Tap each hole with a M3 tap
  5. The bolts provide the path to ground. Do not use Loctite or any other non-conductive material to secure the screws. In applications where a thread locker is required, use a conductive (silver) epoxy as a thread locker. Secure Bearing Protection Ring screws using a torque specification of 85-90 IN-OZ for the M3 screws.
  6. After installation, test for conductive path to ground using Ohm meter. One probe on metal frame of SGR and one probe on motor frame. NOTE: Motor must be grounded to common earth ground according to applicable standards.
    CAUTION: SGR IS NOT A GROUND FAULT PROTECTION DEVICE.
  7. In occasions where Bearing Protection Ring is exposed to excessive debris, additional
    protection of the fibers may be necessary. Call technical support at 207-998-5140 or email techsupport@est-aegis.com
