NEW AEGIS® Severe Duty SGR Bearing Isolator Shaft Grounding Ring Protects
Bearing in VFD-Driven IEEE 841 and Other Severe-Duty Motors
MECHANIC FALLS, ME The new AEGIS® Severe Duty SGR Bearing Isolator Shaft Grounding Ring protects severe-duty motor bearings from harmful VFD-induced shaft currents with a proven shaft grounding ring and from contaminants with an IP56 non-contact seal. Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Standard 841-2001 calls for protection against bearing damage by VFD-induced currents in addition to bearing seals. AEGIS®Severe Duty SGR is ideally suited for IEEE 841 motors controlled by variable frequency drives (VFDs) in petrochemical, pulp and paper, food, mining, and other severe-duty processing applications. Product and ordering information is found at www.est-aegis.com.
Traditional bearing isolator seals provide only half the protection needed by VFD-controlled IEEE 841 and other severe-duty motors. Designed for long-term total bearing protection, the AEGIS® Severe Duty SGR combines a proven shaft grounding ring (in which conductive microfibers completely surround the motor shaft in a protective fiber channel) and a non-contact IP56 bearing isolator that withstands dust, debris and powerful jetting water (providing even greater protection against contaminants than is required by IEEE Standard 841).
The AEGIS® shaft grounding ring has been proven in hundreds of thousands of installations worldwide to protect bearings from harmful currents and extend motor life. By diverting VFD-induced shaft currents away from the bearings and safely to ground, the ring protects the motors bearings from electrical damage known as bearing fluting that can lead to noise and vibration and result in motor failure.
The AEGI® Severe Duty SGRs bearing isolator features IP56 contamination protection with a unique patent-pending Anti-Clog slinger drain system to prevent dirt and debris from plugging up the bearing isolators drain port and compromising performance. The slingers unique design chops and ejects foreign matter, keeping the drain running free.
Electro Static Technology, the manufacturer of the new AEGIS® Severe Duty SGR, is a global leader in the elimination or mitigation of induced electrical charges on moving surfaces. EST is a division of Illinois Tool Works (ITW), an $18 billion multinational diversified manufacturing company operating in 44 countries.
